Last week was busy with discussions and debates about the Fiscal Responsibility Act. As a fiscal conservative, I share many of your concerns with Washington’s reckless spending. The bill that we voted on certainly didn’t go as far as you or I would like, but it was a positive step, and we accomplished it while only holding a majority in the House.

Our federal government didn’t accumulate $31.4 trillion overnight and we can’t undo the mess with just one bill, but the Fiscal Responsibility Act starts moving us in the right direction.

Thankfully, moderates didn’t join with Democrats and force a vote on a so-called clean debt ceiling bill that would have given Biden a blank check. There are real reforms in the bill – albeit not as strong or as many as I would have liked.
